LOL! I'm sorry, but hope Jason really can fix it (and not in the way he took care of the paperwork he needed or the Uhaul). I'll see your prayer for patience and raise you a prayer for strength!

It's been a while since I visited your blog and I didn't know that Jason decided to separate from the USAF. Sounds like you guys have some huge changes in your life right now. It is quite the adjustment to change over to civilian life. I wish you both luck with everything. Keep me posted on where you settle down.

Wonderful post that I'll link too, but I have another story to add...
We were watching part of the Memorial Day concert in DC- the part with the Services Medley. So they start the AF song and all AF members veteran or active stand. At the end, i couldnt help it...I sang along..."nothing can stop the US Air Force...except an email outage or a retirement luncheon".
:)
Here's to the geek squad and those that wash their tighty-whities.

I can so relate to this post. I was just complaining about the same thing. And, there are other perspectives you didn't discuss. My younger daughter is in 4-yr pre-k. Every month they have a parent/child activity that the parents are supposed to attend. I'd guess that maybe half show up. So, I take leave from work to supposedly spend time with my child. Instead, I end up entertaining other children whose parent(s) could not or did not show up. It's a fine line to walk...I see some kids sad because their parents aren't there. So, in the end, do these bonding events really work--especially since I'm certainly not able to focus that time on my child which is the whole idea.

And, the costs are continual and many times unnecessary. The new trend now is teachers who do individual scrapbooks for the children. It's a nice gesture but I would think they have enough on their plates without adding this to their overly full plate. Not to mention that I had to buy a disposable camera, then develop the film for it, and then buy a binder, etc. to contribute to the scrapbook. There are t-shirts for field day, school spirit t-shirts, requests for contributions for various fund raisers, etc. Like you, my family won't starve but I have to wonder what it is like for people who have several children and/or may be a single parent.

I have two children...can't imagine what it is like for people who have more and have less money than we do.

It's called anxiety. Jeff was struggling with that recently. It becomes a vicious cycle. I know it's easier said than done but try and get some rest. I can relate as well. Work has been awful as of late for me. I was sleeping well and a storm work Jeff up who woke me up and now I can't go back to sleep because my mind is going, going, going.

As a School Nurse in a very diverse community, it saddens me to see parents being asked to give money as if their initials were ATM. I see children left out of trips because their parents could not send in the money. Many field trips seem expensive and not worth the expense and risk of taking the children out of the school building. With the internet, smartboards, and virtual field trips the students can get a better educational experience for free if it is set up properly.
One of the great things the PTA does in our school is to sponsor a luncheon/dance for the graduating 5th graders. It is free of cost to the student, the students do not require any special outfits, and it takes place during the school day so parents do not have to take a day off work. I am in discussions with my administration about the real benefit of trips. Parents are doing the best they can, and do not need to take a day off of work to go on a field trip to prove they are good parents.
