Therapy on a Shoestring

Every step takes us a little closer to where we want to be.

So tonight Jason and I are tucking Katey in bed and suddenly there is a brand new, Build A Bear animal in her bed.

Katey, where’d you get that?

Taylor told me I could bring it home and sleep with it.

Does Taylor’s Mommy know she loaned it to you?

Shoulder shrug and mischevious grin.

Did you give Taylor something of yours to sleep with?

uh huh…I gave her the ribbon that was in my hair this morning.

There are 2 things about this particular conversation that make me roll my eyes (and laugh a little). The first is that this is what happens when Daddy is in charge of picking her up from school today. Somehow another kid’s expensive new toy comes home with us.  And the 2nd is that her Dad is actually kind of impressed that Katey came out on the better end of the deal.  The other girl just got a ribbon and Katey scored a Build A Bear.  UGH!!  So let’s hope in my rush to get to school in the morning I don’t forget the bear…it’s actually a puppy….I think…..

The other bit of fun news is that we have the flu in our house. Not just the upset tummy flu…THE flu. The flu where you lay around and feel like complete and total crap.  Jackie has it, we think. We haven’t gotten her tested because you have to sacrifice your first born, do the hokey pokey and go to the other side of town to get the test and she really wasn’t up for it today. But going to the other side of town to get a test they don’t give in the death trap clinic is a blog for another time and place.

Anyway…Jackie started to cry when the Pediatrician said it was the flu.  She heard us saying there’s not much you can do for it other than comfort meds, make sure there is no dehydration and let the flu takes its course…Jacking being the smart, observant girl she is new immediately that we would not go to Dallas tomorrow.  Why is Dallas such a big deal? Its their trip to the American Girl Bistro that they earned by behaving so well while Jason was gone.  To say they have been looking forward to it would be an understatement.  So I have rescheduled our reservation for the 18th.  Jackie said she could live with that…and she went back to the couch (which she hasn’t left for more than a total of about 30 minutes) all day today.
